Hop Thief Taphouse

Updated: Nov 18, 2021

A self-pour taphouse with beer, wine, cider, kombucha, and nitro coffee on tap? Need we say more?

A haven for those who are indecisive or just want to try a little bit of everything

We are taking a trip down memory lane back to our amazing adventure in Walla Walla, Washington. Think this town only has great wine to offer? Well, think again. Yes, as we all know, Walla Walla is an insanely amazing wine region but their craft beer scene is booming and they have some great cider offerings as well. Speaking of wine, beer, and cider...wouldn't it be cool if there was a place where you could get all three in a self-serve atmosphere and only pay for the amount that you pour for yourself? It would be totally awesome! If only a place like this actually existed...

Oh wait, it does! Hop Thief Taphouse in College Place, Washington (the town adjacent to Walla Walla) has all this, and super yummy food to boot! This was an amazing final stop for us on our trip after a loooooooong day of wine tasting with a brewery thrown in there for good measure. Hey, nobody ever said that day drinking was easy!

Hop Thief Taphouse has a lively, welcoming vibe. We felt right at home as we walked through the doors. On this adventure, we had Tots Mom, Tots Dad, Tots Grandma, Tots Grandpa, Tot #2 & Tot #3. I can confirm that each and everyone of us truly enjoyed our time at Hop Thief! Even the front door says "Families Welcome" so you know right away that you're walking into a place that likes tots!

Depending upon the size of your party and the vibe that you are looking for, Hop Thief has a place to accommodate you. Their outdoor area is gigantic and a cool spot to hang out if the weather is cooperative. They have fire pits too which is always fun. And if you're watching the game, they have TVs outside as well.

Their indoor space is large with high ceilings and an industrial vibe. It's a bit on the loud side which if helpful in case your tots haven't quite figured out the difference between their "inside" and "outside" voices just yet. The vibe is chill and it's a judgement-free zone. They also have an upper mezzanine level that is a bit quieter, but still close to all the action.

The staff are super friendly and gave us the full run down of what a self-serve tap house was all about. Once we got the scoop, us grown-ups felt like we were pretty much in Disneyland.

Essentially, you get a card that keeps track of the drinks you pour throughout your visit and you saddle up your bill at the end. They have a wall with 40 taps of deliciousness for you to choose from and you can elect to pour a full or partial glass, depending upon your commitment level. You can go back as many times as you like (just remember to grab a new, clean glass each time) and taste to your heart's content. Such a fun concept!

Their tap selection is fantastic and there is something for everybody, even if you are looking for a non-alcoholic beverage. However, in case there's nothing to suit your unique tastes, they have a whiteboard in the lobby that you can write on if you have a suggestion for what you would like to see on tap next.

The food at Hop Thief is also pretty damn stellar. Link to their full menu is here. The menu is HUGE with a tons of sharable options, which is totally the Tots Crew's style. Their crispy cauliflower is one for the books - crazy yummy! But we had a hard time choosing what to eat because everything that we saw coming out of the kitchen looked phenomenal. They do have a dedicated kids menu which we always appreciate. Be sure to check out their daily specials on the sandwich board in the foyer!
